YMCA Tauranga Launching 2 New Camps

November 24, 2011

The YMCA Tauranga is breaking new ground this year with two awesome 5 day overnight camps!  First up is the Basketball Camp where you will learn fundamental skills from Steve Campbell. ‘Stevie the spark plug Campbell’ ,as he was known, played in the NBL for over 22 years and has stories galore to share.

Leveraging on the growing relationship with the TECT All Terrain Park, the YMCA is going back to nature with their Adventure Camp. Kids ages 9-13 will spend 5 days and 4 nights at the park learning bush skills, tramping, mountain biking, and will even have the chance to try out the new Adrenaline Forest ropes course!

The Y’s traditional programmes kick off on Monday the 19th of December and going to the 23rd of December 2011, the pre-Christmas programme caters to all those parents still at work during the Christmas rush. With not much rest for the hard working team at the Y, the full Summer programme kicks off  from Wednesday the 4th of January to the 27th of January 2012.

Fantastic excursions to Action World in Taupo and Mount Ruapehu, together with playing Adventure laser tag are just a few of trips planned during the four week program. For those less adventurous, the team at the Y have planned activities such as Mini Putt and creative creations with arts and crafts.

Children at the YMCA are mentored by trained leaders who are carefully selected for their enthusiasm and spirit. Parents should be warned that children will come home exhausted, happy, and feeling like they are part of a family rather than a holiday programme!

The options are abound at the Y this summer but parents please note, they are only for the kids. Mix and match days and programmes based on your budget, interest and schedule. To enroll, visit the new website at www.ymcatauranga.org.nz or go to the office at 438 Devonport Rd.

Programmes are WINZ subsidised and additional financial assistance is available from the YMCA for families in need.

About YMCA Tauranga

To us, it’s all about showing your spirit. Ask yourself, when was the last time you showed yours?

Most people hold tightly onto theirs, often too shy to release it. Some people let their spirit run wild, and sometimes have to rein it in- and we meet tonnes of people who have just never been shown how to find theirs. You also get the occasional person who reckons they are just saving their spirit for later.

At the YMCA we work with people to help find their spirit, so they can make the most of their experience and unleash their potential on the world around them.
